The Allderdice High School Alumni Association inducted nine 1999 Distinguished Alumni honorees into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame on October 31 at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center. Sharon Epperson, Class of ’86 and one of last year’s honorees, emceed the program. The nine graduates, who span the school’s 70-year history and have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields, are:
Marty Allen, Class of ’40, comedian/entertainer;
Marvin Sleisinger, Class of ‘41, physician/researcher;
Selwyn Berson, Class of ’46, president (retired), Pratt & Whitney, United Technologies;
Myron Cope, Class of ’47, sportscaster, WTAE;
James Langer, Class of ’51, physicist;
Fred Young, Class of 59, vice president of news, Hearst-Argyle Broadcasting;
Howard Fineman, Class of ’66, chief political correspondent and senior editor, Newsweek;
Sally Lapiduss, Class of ’74, writer/producer;
Maxine Lapiduss, Class of 78, writer/producer.
Class of ’66 alum and honorary chair Louis Alpern of El Paso, TX, offered a challenge grant in which he will match up to $25,000 donated to the Alumni Association. Roberta Lando Brody and Teri Tanner chaired the event.
